When a Cold Hits the House: Keep the Day Manageable

When someone in the family catches a cold, the goal is not to run a perfect home. The goal is to keep everyone comfortable, hydrated, rested, and connected to the right medical help if symptoms worsen.

Keep the day simple

Choose easy meals, offer fluids regularly, lower the schedule when possible, and make rest easy. Give each person their own cup, towel, and tissues when practical.

Reduce household spread

Wash hands often, wipe high-touch surfaces, and encourage coughs and sneezes into a tissue or elbow. Good ventilation can also make shared rooms feel fresher.

For high fever, breathing difficulty, dehydration, chest pain, or symptoms that are concerning or getting worse, contact a healthcare professional.
